Lugo has been traded to the Orioles

Deal awaiting approval of the commissioner ... I'm sure because of the amount of money going to the Orioles.

The Cards will have to ship a big chunk of the Red Sox cash that came with Lugo to the Orioles to offset his contract the same way the Sox did for the Cards.

I would guess they didn't think they could get Lugo enough at bats to keep him happy. He did a good job last year.

Exactly and they're now saying that it was for a PTBNL and that Stavinoha, Craig, and Mather have all been told that they have made the team.

Lugo moments ago confirmed a deal but declined further comment pending approval. He hugged first baseman Albert Pujols and remained in street clothes while his former teammates dressed for their Grapefruit League finale against the Florida Marlins. The Baltimore Orioles have had interest in obtaining middle infield insurance ever since second baseman Brian Roberts suffered acute back problems this spring.

... The deal creates an avenue for the Cardinals to retain all three contenders for what was previously believed to be two outfield spots. Allen Craig, Nick Stavinoha and Joe Mather remain in camp. Craig and Mather have experience at third base while Lopez is considered an option at second base and shortstop.

Craig looks like the real deal as far as hitting goes but I hate to see him sitting on the bench with the big club. I think he would be better served where he can play everyday and maybe polish up his defense.

This trade is Bullshit. I really liked Lugo but not the way he was used.

According to the PD online, the Cards are shipping Lugo and the $400,000 they were responsible for to the Orioles. BOSOX stil on the hook for 9 mil.. Very Happy So PTBNL and $$$ are coming St. Loo's way.

I'm glad he played there for a minute, and too
me he did a good job, what he was asked of.

A hell of a utility guy.

Looks like the Cards' FO is workin overtime........

This is a win-win trade.

The Cardinals get to reward the younger guys with the roster spots they so dearly covet...and they probably get another young player in the process.

Julio Lugo gets to go to a place where he could potentially play every day...and a division which he's familiar with (AL East).

The Orioles get a veteran guy who helps to fill a void created by injury...and they don't have to give up too much to get that guy.
