Braves give Glaus one-year deal

Phantom-Cardinal Wed Dec 23, 2009 9:58 am

The Braves have reached agreement on a one-year contract with free agent Troy Glaus to play first base, according to a major-league source.

The deal, which also includes incentives, is pending a physical, the source said.

Glaus, 33, has made only six career appearances at first, two last season with the Cardinals. However, he will give the Braves a potent right-handed bat as they seek to improve their offense.

The Braves had balked at re-signing free-agent first baseman Adam LaRoche due to his high price, sources said.

Glaus underwent surgery on his right shoulder last January, but returned to appear in 14 games for the Cardinals last September.

Glaus could hit some homers for the Bravos, but he is so injury riddled that he has probably seen his best days. I don't feel bad about him not coming back, talk about an overpaid ox, he was one.

I loved his first season with ST Louis.

Imagine if our medical staff could have stayed away from him last year?

I'll miss his 20+ homers and 100 RBI's at the hot corner

The medical staff would have been good with Custer and the Seventh Cavalry! Laughing

Barring another injury, he'll fit in there.

And the Nats signed Marquis too, which I saw at 5am.

I guess they're pushin fer a playoff spot? Cool

I mean Jason has only played on playoff teams,
dont-cha know....... Wink

Good luck to him again..........

Custer and his men may have lived a lot longer if they had the Cardinal's med. staff back then. Reason being, if the Cardinal's med. staff had been treating them, they wouldn't have been in any shape to report for duty and get wiped out. Laughing

In his Q and A session, Jeff Gordon said in answer to a question why the Cards didn't take a chance and sign him for 2 mil for one year....

- he had a surgery he did not tell the club about until after the fact
- he rehabbed in Arizona all summer away from the club
- he tanked at the end of the season in his cameos
- he wasn't a good clubhouse presence

Why would they even give him 2 mil.

I would have to agree. He knew he wasn't coming back to why bother? What did it matter to him to take his 11 mil and go home for the year with a bad shoulder? I think factor 1 and possibly 2 made sure he wouldn't be back with any kind of offer.
