St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of April 26-May 2, 2010.

The Cardinals will place catcher Jason LaRue on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right hamstring and will replace him on the active roster with catcher Bryan Anderson.
The club announced the moves on its official Twitter feed on Wednesday afternoon.
LaRue, 36, suffered the injury in Sunday night's game in Milwaukee. He said on Monday that he was improving, but he did not come along enough to avoid a DL stint. It's been a difficult year already for LaRue, who also suffered a bone...

Deal awaiting approval of the commissioner ... I'm sure because of the amount of money going to the Orioles.
The Cards will have to ship a big chunk of the Red Sox cash that came with Lugo to the Orioles to offset his contract the same way the Sox did for the Cards.

St. Louis signed free-agent infielder Felipe Lopez to a one-year deal on Saturday. He worked out with his new team, even taking live batting practice on his first day in uniform. A No. 8 Cardinals jersey awaited him when he arrived at the clubhouse at Roger Dean Stadium. "I didn't want to keep wasting time at my house when I could be here," said Lopez, who also spent the last two months of the 2008 season with the Cardinals. "I've wanted to be here for a long time. I've made a lot of changes, an...

The Cardinals signed Dominican right fielder Amauris Capellan in November for $450,000. Capellan, who is 6-foot, 190 pounds, has a plus-plus arm and is an advanced righthanded hitter for a 17-year-old, though he doesn't project to have tremendous power.
